NEWS from Lisa: May Dates

After spending Easter in the studio, many new sculptures have magically come to life, ready this month for exhibition at the Bowral Sculpture Prize and The Other Art Fair. There truly is a benefit to the daily practice of art where each day builds on the experiments and reflections of the one before. I feel very fortunate to finally have carved out the time and space to do this after so many years of multiple projects and competing commitments. My addiction to clay is even stronger than before, so watch out for more new work and exhibitions as the year progresses.

BOWRAL SCULPTURE PRIZE
Where: Bowral Art Gallery, 1 Short Street, Bowral
When: 03/05/2025 - 18/05/2025.
I am very happy to be entering the Bowral Sculpture Prize for the first time, which is held annually in a beautiful, bespoke gallery in the heart of Bowral - just one and a half hours from Sydney. If you get a chance, it is well worth a visit to both this gallery and Ngununggula - The Southern Highlands Regional Gallery.
Here are some pics.

THE OTHER ART FAIR SYDNEY
Where: White Bay Cruise Terminal - Sydney
When: 08/05/2025 - 11/05/2025

May is a big month for me as I join 120 participating artists and 14 ceramic artists in the ‘The Other Art Fair’, Sydney. This year, for the first time, the Fair will include a designated area for ‘non-functional ceramics’. Integral to the exhibition is having artworks available through the saatchiart.com website. Search Lisa Hölzl to check out some of the 20 artworks that I will be exhibiting for the first time, as a solo ceramic artist. Find out more and book your tickets here.

Here’s a sneak preview of some of the work that I will be exhibiting, together with some small flower sculptures just in time for Mother’s Day:

Workshop Totems

May also brings another Totem workshop commencing on May 17 at the Bakehouse Studio and a Bird workshop at Winmark Wines on Sunday June 1st. On Monday June 2 at the Winmark monthly High Tea I will also be giving a talk about my work.

Many thanks to studio member Sara Buchner who last month, generously extended her ‘Business Planning for Creatives’ workshop to another two feedback sessions where a number of other Bakehouse artists shared their work in progress and creative practice planning process. If you missed out, and you think this is something you might be interested in, please register your interest here and we will put you on a waitlist for the next series. In the meantime, I will be presenting the evolution of my own creative practice here at the Bakehouse on Friday May 23.

You’ve found it!

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space
Or machines, or tools.

It's even for people with no skills and a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
