NEWS from Lisa: October Fest – A Feast of Fun

September was a month full of commissions, new collaborations, workshops and more artists’ talks, not to mention a quick trip to Melbourne for some art inspo that came from The Picasso Century, Light Works from the Tate and Interspecies at the beautiful Abbotsford Convent.

Lisa’s talk ‘The Aesthetics of Joy’ for the Ceramics Study Group

Firstly, thanks to Leonard Smith for inviting me to speak and demonstrate at the Ceramic Study Group now located in a fascinating collection of buildings which were once an orphanage, in Baulkham Hills. I was blown away by the ceramics collection held there in the library including the work of many of our 20th century Australian and International ceramic greats such as Lucie Rie and Peter Rushforth, to name just a couple.

Looking over a 30 year slow evolution of my art and teaching practices and diving deeper into the faster, past 13 years of ceramics, was a very rewarding experience which I will refine and repeat for our last Monthly Bakehouse Talk for the year, on Sunday December 18th at 5pm.

Our annual Christmas Goddess Sculpture workshop has a few spots left but if you miss out and you have your own small group of besties with whom you’d like to combine a pre-Christmas celebration, please contact me to schedule a night of ‘fun fem forms’.

Beautiful work from a recent Totem Workshop

Some really exciting and creatively inspiring collaborations are continuing this month including my first ceramic / timber box design and workshop with Scott Brunsdon.

Our first 4-session ceramic / timber box workshop will be held on Thursday nights during November and has already sold out! Let us know if you’d like to go on the January waitlist.

Following on from the Cooks River Clay Connections exhibition at Connie Dimas Artisans Collective, some lovely new commissions are now coming my way. Here’s one made specifically to fit on a fireplace mantelpiece.
