NEWS FROM Lisa: Free Fall

Frida - you can see this work in the Kerrie Lowe Gallery, Newtown until March 6.

February festivities ended with Mardi Gras and my second big new totem for the year called Frida, an homage to Frida Kahlo and the sense of artistic free fall into Autumn I got from the Virtual Reality experience inspired by Frida Kahlo’s life and work as part of Sydney Festival this year.
In this work I tried to translate her wonderful mix of botanical and biological forms including cactus, fungi, moth, water melon, breast and bud. You can still see this work in the window of Kerrie Lowe Gallery Newtown as part of the True Colours Mardi Gras show until March 6

Also ending this month, on Sunday 5th, is a group show titled Colour Our World at Crackpot Gallery, at Freshwater featuring a number of my sea - inspired totems and sculptures. Join me for a closing drink at 1pm on Sunday if you’re free

Autumn and the month of March herald the completion of five new birds for the Royal Botanical Gardens On The Edge exhibition. This show and its associated talks and events, are aimed at raising awareness of plant and animal species on the edge of extinction and what we can all do to help.

Tickets for the fundraising opening night can be booked here:

Following on from this exhibition, I will also be running another ceramic Bird Making workshop after Easter, on Saturday April 15th and 22nd. This makes a great Mother’s Day Gift. We have Gift Vouchers available online here.

Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo will be on show at On The Edge Exhibition - Royal Botanical Gardens.

“Despite being a newbie, I found the bird making workshop rapidly developed both my technical skills and my way of viewing the world through an artist’s lens. I learned so much about shape, colour and shifting between abstract and figurative goals, all with fun!”

From April we invite studio members to share their own projects in an informal discussion and feedback session after Open Studio on the last Friday of each month.
