NEWS from Lisa: On The Edge

Henrietta

Introducing Herietta, the first in a new range of totems.

As a huge month of making over January flows seamlessly into a big month of exhibiting in February, I have the scary but exhilarating feeling of being on the edge of yet another very exciting year.
It has begun with the creation of a big new totem called Henrietta, the first of what I hope to be many homages to the historical painters that inform my work.

I’m also very excited to be evolving my sculptural skills in the making and exhibition of five new birds for a Royal Botanical Gardens initiative called On The Edge. This show and its associated talks and events are aimed at raising awareness of plant and animal species on the edge of extinction and what we can all do to help. Tickets for the fundraising opening night on Friday March 17 can be booked here.

Following on from this exhibition, I will also be running another Bird Making workshop after Easter, on Saturday April 15th and 22nd. You can book your place here!

Also opening this month on Saturday, February 11th is a group show titled Colour My World at Crackpot Gallery, in Freshwater. True Colours, at Kerrie Lowe Gallery in Newtown opens this month on Friday, February 17th. Colour and World Pride are the inspirations for a number of new sculptures I am exhibiting in these events. Hope you can join me for the openings.

Same but different - the fabulous results of the recent totem workshop

Preparing for three new exhibitions and 2023 workshops continues to bring wonderful new people with great new ideas to the Bakehouse Studio and Bakehouse Shed. As the recent totem workshop drew to a conclusion, I was reminded what a great opportunity this sculptural form offers for learning not only basic skills in hand-building and glazing, but also for developing new forms and experimenting with clays and glazes.
So stay posted this year for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Totem Making workshops to help you evolve and accumulate new ceramic skills.
The next Beginner totem workshop is scheduled to begin on Saturday March 18 and is filling up fast with just 3 places left.

Loris Quantock will give the first Artist’s talk of the year

Monthly Artist Talks
This year will also see our monthly artists’ talks kick off with a presentation by local artist Loris Quantock on Sunday February 26th followed by a discussion of my own work on Friday March 31st.
From April we invite studio participants to share their own projects in an informal discussion and feedback session after Open Studio on the last Friday of each month.
You can book your place for Loris’ talk here!

A recent Ceramic/Wood Workshop produced some beautiful work.

Group Ceramic/Wood Workshops
If you’d like to do a ceramic and woodworking workshop with a group of 4 friends on dates that best suit you, then please contact us.
The making of a beautiful, bespoke box from recycled timber with a slab rolled ceramic lid, topped off with a hand sculptured and painted ceramic knob, is a joy to be shared with friends.
