NEWS from Lisa: Art & Life

June was a month where I managed to make lots of new work while also enjoying the delivery of it to some special places both near and far. With the support of good friends I’ve visited some wonderful places, showing my work to new audiences while also enjoying great food and wine.

Hazelhurst Gallery Lunch with Cally Bruer and Deb Wilkes

Sunset Vibes at Winmark Wines Gallery in Broke - Cally Bruer and Amanda Woods

From Hazelhurst Arts Centre in Gymea on the first weekend of June, to Winmark Wines Gallery in Broke and Weswal Gallery in Tamworth on the last, I was also quite chuffed to have Michael Reid himself, make me a coffee when we dropped in to see the Michael Reid Gallery on the way back through Murrurrundi. Many thanks to Neta from Hazelhurst, Karin Adcock from Winmark Wines and Kate from Weswal for your help and hospitality. Special thanks also to Cally Bruer for accompanying me on my road trip to Tamworth, and helping me set up all the work.

Bloom Exhibition at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth

Beach Ball sketch of proposed work for Les Sculptures Refusées 2023.

If you are travelling up the New England Highway this month, be sure to check out Bloom 2023 exhibition of botanical and still life art, which opened on Thursday June 28 at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth and runs till July 16th. Other artists in this show include: Jessica Alexander, Belinda Jeanes, Kirsty McIntyre, Marilou Palazon, Jane Frances Tannock and Sophie Witter.

Last month I was excited to have my proposed ceramic installation Beach Ball accepted into the Les Sculptures Refusées 2023 sculpture exhibition to be held at the Quarantine Station on North Head from October 14 till November 12. This life-size figurative project will be my focus for the next couple of months.

Back at the Bakehouse this month, we also held another series of totem workshops, a fish sculpture workshop and the inaugural Light House workshop with slab builder extraordinaire, Sara Buchner from Among the Trees. If you missed this one, Sara will run another Light House workshop on Sunday September 3.
Check out our Upcoming Workshops for more new and repeated Workshops to keep your creative fires burning.
