NEWS from Lisa: April Away

At the opening of Inspire & Evolve. Lisa wth Cally and Henrietta

As the weather cools down a bit, the Bakehouse Studio has been hotting up with lots of new work-in-progress for exhibitions in May and beyond. I’m loving the return of our pre-Covid Thursday night Open Studio which has a special vibe all of its own. If you can’t make a day time Open Studio, then this may be a good time for you.

March was a busy month for exhibitions. Thanks to all those who came to see them. If you didn’t get a chance yet, there’s still time to see Inspire & Evolve at CBD Gallery until April 6 and Eco Echo at Gallery Lowe & Lee until April 13.

This month brings a wonderful week at the much anticipated Clay Gulgong 2024 conference. It doesn’t get much better than escaping to the country for a week of total immersion in all things clay, surrounded by Australian and International Ceramic artists demonstrating live and talking about their work. This year there will be a few Bakehouse Studio artists attending this unique conference making it even more fun. Find out more information about this great event here:

Recently I’ve been continuing to experiment with more abstractions of the female figure, in the form of Goddesses.
Stay posted to see this Sun Goddess glazed for a competition entry as well as Gustava - my Gustav Klimt-inspired work - multiplying into a five-totem installation for the Sculptures at Scratchley Art Prize in Newcastle, opening in May.

Over the next couple of months you can see some of my work in the following exhibitions:

Eco Echo Gallery Lowe and Lee, Newtown, until April 13

Mid fire cups glazed to evoke the Central Australian landscape ready for ADC’s 60th Birthday Morning Tea.

Next month I’m also excited to be one of 30 makers chosen to take part in a morning tea fundraiser celebrating Australian Design Centre’s 60 years of support for the craft and design community. I have made two cups to be included in 60 bags for morning tea guests. Each paying guest will receive a handmade cup/mug along with details of the maker. It’ll be a hot ticket event (at $120) with special guest speakers and a celebrity host. Find out more about how to be a part of this event supporting Australan Craft and Design here.
