NEWS from Lisa: August All-Ready?

Cardi upon finding her glazed stoneware bowls

Ceramics have continued to offer their therapeutic effects this past month with lots of making and community as usual. It’s been food for the soul to witness the joy on workshop participants’ faces as they fall in love with their own work. This was certainly the case at the recent Landscape Platters and Plates and Totem Workshops.
I also love seeing Bakehouse Studio patrons like Cardi here, take what they learn from workshop experiments and develop their ideas further in Open Studios.

The ceramic landscape workshop offered an in-depth exploration of how glaze affects both texture and color, giving participants a hands-on understanding of its transformative power. With expert guidance, the class also focused on slab building design, helping attendees master the art of blending form and color to create stunning, abstract and realistic landscapes.

Macquarie Sculpture Park.

Last month I really enjoyed a long stroll around the many inspiring sculptures at Macquarie University Sculpture Park. Checking out the huge variety of large scale outdoor works (not always signposted with their artists’ names unfortunately) is well worth a visit. You can also visit the University Gallery and Library to see more sculpture and significant Australian paintings from the University collection.

BAKEHOUSE STUDIO GALLERY

The Bakehouse Studio Gallery is now open, where you can find and purchase items like the leaf collection above.

In the Studio

Back in the studio I’ve been working hard on a large white waratah , a licorice allsorts totem and given my Seedy-Three-somes totem a luscious new surface thanks to a recent glaze experiment. I’ve also begun a new figurative work called Georgette - Head in the Cloud inspired by a Rene Magritte painting titled ‘Black Magic’. Go to @lisabakehouse to see her work in progress. You can see some of these recent works at Sculpture on the Farm at the end of August and at the Sydney Ceramics Market in October . See below for dates of upcoming exhibitions of interest.

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.

It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.

Perhaps you want to fix something.

Or restore something.

Or make something from scratch.

There have been lots of interesting projects this year (a couple are pictured above).
Bookcases, tables ,a jewellery box, a lovely cabinet for a record player and albums, and frame for a stained glass window.

Some of them made from reclaimed timber.

And all made by people who have never made anything out of wood before.

This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.

Drop in for a visit and a chat.

For more information or to book a time to come and talk about your project, contact Scott on 0415 816 627 or
