NEWS from Lisa: Skipping into September
Waratahs
After an awesome waratah-making workshop in August, the path leading into Spring is looking bighter and sunnier. August left us empty-nested, with Mimi now settled in Canberra and Eliza studying in the Netherlands for 6 months. Boating on beautiful Sydney harbour is helping fill the big emotional gap!
Spring was certainly in the air last weekend as I exhibited for the first time at Sculpture On The Farm in Dungog (near Maitland). My two sculptures Grow and Seedy Singles enjoyed great placements, beautiful weather and big blue skies in an impressive outdoor exhibition.
A Bird Workshop and High Tea / Artist’s Talk at Winmark Wines also coincided with this lovely long weekend in the countryside. See Next month’s Newsletter for pics of these two events.
Spring Celebration exhibition - from 2 - 7 September at Gallery 371
I feel very honoured this week to be opening the Spring Celebration exhibition for three Bakehouse artists Deb Wilkes, Jim O’Brien and Cath Miers. It has been a delight to fire their pieces and see their work evolve over the past few years. I’m so glad they mustered the confidence to have an exhibition together, sharing their work in Gallery 371, and proving the power of collaboration in a group show.
Exhibitions: Yolnu Power at AGNSW & Cézanne to Giacometti at NGA
Last month I enjoyed two incredible exhibitions: Firstly, Yolnu power: the Art of Yirrkala which finishes on October 6 at the Art Gallery of NSW Sydney. This exhibition spoke to me not only in terms of it’s aesthetic richness but also in terms of cultural inheritance. It is a mesmerising and spiritual experience to see. Secondly, Cézanne to Giacometti at the National Gallery of Australia, showing work from the Berggruen Collection of the Neue National Gallery, Berlin. This exhibition expertly shows the influence of key European artists on their Australian counterparts. I always love to see how artists are inspired by other artists both past and present, across decades and countries.
In the Studio
I’ve been busy completing work for October exhibitions which include Sculptures in the Garden , Mudgee and the Sydney Ceramics Market at Carriageworks in October. You can see here two of the works I’ll be showing: All-Sorts and Just Fronds.
Hope to see you soon!

“The ceramic landscape workshop offered an in-depth exploration of how glaze affects both texture and color, giving participants a hands-on understanding of its transformative power. With expert guidance, the class also focused on slab building design, helping attendees master the art of blending form and color to create stunning, abstract and realistic landscapes.”

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!
The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.
It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
Perhaps you want to fix something.
Or restore something.
Or make something from scratch.
This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.
Drop in for a visit and a chat.
