NEWS from Lisa: Oscillating into October
Body Politic Sculpture by Louis Pratt, Undercliff Winery in Broke for Sculpture in the Vineyards
September’s seeds began blossoming and were ripe for the picking as I began my exhilarating Spring oscillation between Sydney, Wollombi and Mudgee. The first Spring sculpture exhibition has been Sculpture in the Vineyards in the beautiful historic town of Wollombi. The largest sculpture festival in Australia, this biennial event is spread through the towns of Laguna and Wollombi, and the grounds of the neighbouring Undercliff Winery. See below my sculptures Stone Hinge in the main street of Wollombi and Still Blossom in St John’s Church. Three editions of the Eucalyptus Macro Carpa - inspired Still Blossom sculpture are now going to new homes and Supreme Court chambers!
It was such a joy to spend the opening weekend with fellow Bakehouse artists Cardi, Deb, Cally and Sally with whom I shared some scintillating conversations about sculpture by the fire of our Mountain View guesthouse. Many thanks to Cardi for organising this mini girls retreat!
As part of the festival I also ran a fun ceramic workshop at Winmark Wines sharing my love of clay and birds with a group of lovely Hunter Valley creatives. Of course there was also wonderful wine-tasting and antipasta for lunch from our host Karin.

Another great event held as part of the Wollombi Sculpture Festival was an Art Immersion Day at Winmark Wines. This included an incredible talk about public sculpture by Hampstead School of Arts Principal, Isabelle Langtry, a guided sculpture park walk with owner Karin Adcock and a ceramic activity to add to the evolving community totems we began in May.
Here you can see the Winmark community totems coming along. We are hoping to grow a whole forest of them to symbolise the sense of belonging and place people feel when they come to Winmark Wines which is Danish for ‘Valley of Wine’.

I love the way each form is different representing different stories from a diverse range of people but that they all come together in the end like a patchwork quilt.

Sculptures in the Garden - Rosby Wines Mudgee: October 10-25
But now, its almost time to oscillate back round to Sculptures in the Garden in Mudgee with four ceramic works: two sculptures and two sculpture installations. (Spin, Still Blossom, Feed the Birds bird feeders and Stone Hinge Installation of 3 totems). I love spending my birthday weekend on this property with its beautiful gardens and adjacent paddocks hosted by the Norton-Knight family, to promote sculpture and support more public art in the Mudgee / Rylstone area.
