NEWS from Lisa: – Sculpture by the Sun, Salt & Sea

2022 ended full of goodwill, good cheer and good fun at our last workshop for the year, the Christmas Goddess Sculpture Workshop. What great work everyone produced with many participants realising an aptitude for sculpture irrespective of any previous experience. It made me realise the Bakehouse Studio’s main point of difference is in being primarily a sculpture studio, specialising in ceramic hand-building rather than wheel thrown tableware. So this year as I focus on my own sculptural projects, you will see a program of intermittent sculpture workshops and opportunities to help members of our Bakehouse Studio community develop and hone their own art practice and sculptural approach. 2023 Workshops here

New Year’s Recreations:

Watercolour Sketch exploring ideas for new sculptural work

This month I’m working on a new body of sculptural work celebrating the sea and the sun, for an exhibition called ‘Colour My World’ opening at Crackpot Gallery in Freshwater on February 8th. The opening event will be held on Saturday February 11th 3-5pm if you’d like to come along.

January Studio Inductions

2023 also heralds new studio inductions and orientations to encourage greater utilisation and more effective sharing of all the studio resources in a safe, healthy  and eco-friendly way. Please check the website to book your induction and orientation session prior to your first visit. The studio reopens on January 9th at 9am for our first session.

Studio Memberships:

From January this year you will be able to take advantage of optional member benefits by purchasing a 3-month Open Studio Membership to help regular participants save on multiple visits, firings and other new opportunites.

Members Monthly Talks Program

This year will also see our monthly artists talk kick off with the postponed presentation from artist Loris Quantock on Sunday February 26th followed by a discussion of my own work on Friday March 31st. From April we invite studio members to share their own projects in an informal discussion and feedback session after Open Studio on the last Friday of each month.

More Material Collaborations:

Back by popular demand, another ceramic/timber box workshop is scheduled for January with Lisa, Sara and Scott. Develop your ceramic and woodworking skills to build a beautiful, bespoke boxes from recycled timber with a slab rolled ceramic lid, topped off with a hand sculptured and painted ceramic knob.
