NEWS from Lisa: Bumping In, Bumping Out, Bumping On

Blue Mountains Birthday Bushwalk with besties Sue and Cally

After getting over the big birthday bump with multiple little birthday dinners, October was a crazy month spent navigating a lot of exhibition bump ins, a few bumpy roads (both literally and metaphorically) and a couple of exhibition bump outs. Two of these wonderful exhibitions remain open well into November, so if you haven’t seen them yet, they are truly enjoyable experiences. They include; HIDDEN Sculptures at Rookwood Cemetery and Les Sculptures Refusées at the Quarantine Station on North Head.

HiDDEN Dusk Tours
I hope you can join me for the HIDDEN dusk tour on Wednesday 1 November at 5pm, or the morning tour on Saturday. Please meet me at the HIDDEN HUB (Cnr Hawthorne Ave & Necropolis Drive) by 5pm. We will be guided by the curator Kath Fires and a couple of the other artists as a group, stopping at each of the works to talk about them. You can book here

Last month I also enjoyed exhibiting work for the second year at Sculptures in the Garden, Rosby Wines, Mudgee and for a 3rd time at Artisans in the Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, where I also demonstrated how I make gum blossoms, gumnuts and gum leaves to the many visitors.

Thanks to everyone for their help over the past month or so, particularly Scott, without whom I could not have managed so many exhibition installation bump ins and outs, of such big, heavy work.

Last week, I loved my own visits to Sculptures by the Sea where I was almost blown off the cliff walk, but nevertheless enjoyed these site specific works made of so many diverse materials. I also loved a show called Brick Vase Clay Cup Jug at the Art Gallery of NSW, curated by Glen Barkley. His fascinating groupings of 2D and 3D works from the gallery’s own collection of ceramics and paintings creates unexpected dialogues which really change the way you experience individual works of art. From centuries old Chinese pots to Modernist paintings and contemporary sculptures, even well-known works seem to take on new meanings in such close proximity to their lesser known and incredibly diverse co-exhibits.

And now it’s time to focus on our annual Bakehouse Christmas Studio Exhibition and Sale scheduled as usual for the first weekend of December. Please save the date and help us celebrate the end of a huge year!

Looking forward to seeing you at the Bakehouse soon!
