NEWS from Lisa: January Rejuvenation
Some of the exhibiting artists at our 15th Studio Christmas Exhibition.
Happy New Year!
We finished 2025 with the 15th Bakehouse Studio Exhibition and Sale - one of our best events ever! Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported the work and creativity of the exhibiting Bakehouse artists in such unpredictable and often challenging times. Your interest and support speaks volumes about the importance of community, the continuing love we all have for the hand-made, the beauty of collaboration and sharing of common interests and passions.
Many thanks also to the exhibiting artists for your continuing support of the Bakehouse Studio who this year included:
Jo Boag, Sara Buchner, Cally Bruer, Vicki Klay, Monika Lencse, Cardi McAuslan, Cath Miers, Jim O’Brien, Sally Steele, Deb Wilkes
December was also spent returning the studio, to its pre-exhibition, working condition. First up was the annual Christmas Candle Goddess Workshop. This final workshop of the year is always a joy as everyone finds their sculptural forms with so much good Christmas cheer!
Check out the amazing finished and work-in-progress shots below.
In December some of us also enjoyed continuing to learn and refine our slab-rolling, wedging, throwing and hand-building skills with visiting Canadian designer Lorris Williams, pictured below. Lorris grew up in his parent’s Edmonton pottery studio where he assisted his father in trimming and glazing and later, throwing pots for a thriving production pottery. I know many of you have some of Lorris’s pieces from our 2016-18 Christmas Shows and love his work too.
We are loving having Lorris and his family stay for a month in our airbnb above the studio. Our very own O.S. artist-in-residence.
With the Studio not reopening till January 10, I am now enjoying some relaxed time working alongside Lorris and learning more of his tips and tricks. His son Walter is also an inspiration with his never-ceasing curiosity in the world around him .
2025 was a good time for reflecting on my past few years of ceramic sculpture-making. To this end I created a small catalogue of my favourite works. You can view it here.
2026 Workshops
If you’d like to to start the New Year with some creative ceramic experiences, please have a look at what’s on for the next set of workshops below. There are very limited spots for our first totem workshop in January but this one will be repeated in May at the Bakehouse Studio and also as a 2-day workshop over one weekend in February at Winmark Wines.
The Flower workshop in February will this time focus on gumnuts , gum blossoms and sturt desert peas. You can choose to make new totem beads with these buds or a stand alone table flower sculpture.
The first workshop for 2026 will be our most popular Totem Workshop commencing on January 10.
It’s always a fun way to start the year.
You can reserve your place here if you are quick.
Hope to see you soon!

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!
The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.
It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
Perhaps you want to fix something.
Or restore something.
Or make something from scratch.
This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.
Drop in for a visit and a chat.
