NEWS from Lisa: June Jitters

Base for Colo High School Totem

May has been another month full of making and teaching. The first highlight was a one day workshop at Colo High School in North Richmond for Head teacher Sharron Mountain, where we worked with students from different year groups to build a large collaborative outdoor sculpture (more on this work-in-progress next month).

The second highlight was a Goddess Birthday Workshop for my friend Suzie Smith who brought a wonderful cast of eight other authors, journalists and film makers along to the Bakehouse Studio to share the joy of the female form as part of her 60th birthday celebration. A good time was definitely had by all. Check out all the Goddesses both ceramic and human below and check in to the end-of-year Goddess workshop if you’d like to make one too.

In the Studio

Over the past month, I have continued working on the Stone Hinge project by also making some sculptural vases based on similar forms to the initial sculpture which is fast becoming an installation. The giant sea butterfly was finally glazed and joined the kaleidoscope of smaller sculptures, while the Hundertwasser-inspired Bird feeders expanded to include a new shape. I also completed a new gum blossom totem. See below for images of each.

Exciting News

This month I’m all of a jitter with excitement to attend the IAC (International Academy of Ceramics) Conference in Jingdezehn, China. Accompanying my favourite local ceramics guru and China officionado Leonard Smith, we are very excited to be going to the home of porcelain during the Jingdezehn Ceramics Biennale and participating in a post conference tour to Longhuan. Can’t wait to tell you all about in my next newsletter which will be in August. The studio will therefore be closed from June 23 till July 8.

This month, we’re releasing a few more early bird spots for our upcoming Winter workshops—available exclusively to registered newsletter subscribers.

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.

It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.

Perhaps you want to fix something.

Or restore something.

Or make something from scratch.

This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.

Drop in for a visit and a chat.

For more information or to book a time to come and talk about your project, contact Scott on 0415 816 627 or
