NEWS from Lisa: May Be

April was a very productive and inspiring month spent making sculptures for end-of-year shows, with an incredible one week immersion at Clay Gulgong 2026. As my 5th time at this special biennial clay conference, it was wonderful to share the experience this time, with seven other members of the Bakehouse Studio . We learned so many new techniques from many local and international artists. Here are a few images of our wonderful time at Clay Gulgong 2026 .

In the Studio

In April, I continued working on a variety of very different projects. Firstly some extra spacer beads were added to Stone Hinge to help the large pieces balance. Secondly a giant sea butterfly which was quite an engineering challenge. Thirdly some Hundertwasser-inspired Bird feeder / houses as well as a gum blossom totem coming soon.

Artist-In Residence Saint Patricks College for Boys

As part of my residency last month at St Patricks in Strathfield, I also worked with a lovely group of teachers from all faculties to produce a banksia-inspired sculpture for the school grounds. Here’s how it came out.

The inaugural Bakehouse Boat Lunch.

Bakehouse Studio Boat Party

An inaugural Bakehouse Boat Lunch was enjoyed by five of my original Bakehouse Studio patrons. We had a great day out on Sydney Harbour including a brisk swim at Athol Bay. Thanks to those who made it - we couldn’t have asked for better weather!

This month, we’re releasing a few more early bird spots for our upcoming Autumn/Winter workshops—available exclusively to registered newsletter subscribers.

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.

It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.

Perhaps you want to fix something.

Or restore something.

Or make something from scratch.

This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.

Drop in for a visit and a chat.

For more information or to book a time to come and talk about your project, contact Scott on 0415 816 627 or
