NEWS from Lisa: never say never in November
Tracey, Deb and Lisa at the Opening of Sculptures in the Garden
Well the absolute highlight of October had to be Sculptures in the Garden at Rosby Wines, just outside Mudgee. I was so happy to exhibit in this annual sculpture prize alongside Bakehouse Studio artists Tracey Wigg and Deb Wilkes. I don’t think I would have considered exhibiting in a regional sculpture show had Tracey not encouraged me to do so five years ago. It was from this exhibition that I met Karin Adcock from Winmark Wines and these two wineries are where I now sell the majority of my sculptures. Many thanks to the Norton-Knight family for their benevolence and vision in finding ways to provide public sculpture to regional municipalities and for supporting so many artists by running this special event.
It is always great to see work previously confined to your own studio, curated into the landscape and gallery. Below you can see Spin, Stone Hinge and Feed The Birds installations set within the beautiful gardens of Rosby Wines.
Here are a few images from the show including major prize winning work River Bend, by Michael Ferris top middle and Michael receiving his award from judges Bradley Hammond (Director, Orange Regional Gallery) and Stephen King (artist).
Back in the Studio and due to the popularity of my gum blossom totems, I have been adapting the regular totem workshop to incorporate native flowers, gumnuts and gum leaves. What a joy it is to see the results and the excitement on participants’ faces as they complete their work! Evan, Stephanie, Sue and Jane at recent Native Flower Totem Workshop
It always feels like Christmas opening a kiln and seeing what’s coming out. Below left and right is Mimi with her wall-hung key-holders and Neil with his latest bird sculpture (one of many quirky animals he’s made over the last few weeks. Many thanks to Stephanie Davies for sending me an image of her Gum totem insitu at home with other flowers she has made at Bakehouse Studio workshops over the past year or so.
SAVE THE DATES:
My next workshop at Winmark Wines in Broke will be Art Deco - making ceramic Christmas Tree Decorations on Saturday November 14. Come and learn how to roll a slab, cut or stamp a design then colour using under glaze with scraffito techniques. Light lunch and chardonnay will also be part of this joyful silly event as we ramp up for the silly season. You can find more information about these Sculpture Park events here: And if you’d like to make something special for someone special this Christmas, join us for the annual Christmas Goddess workshop or an Open Studio.
Hope to see you soon,
Lisa

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?
You’ve found it!
The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space. Or machines, or tools.
It's even for people with no skills and only a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
Perhaps you want to fix something.
Or restore something.
Or make something from scratch.
This is a relaxed, inclusive community space where you can work on your own project with the good humoured guidance of Scott - and YouTube.
Drop in for a visit and a chat.
